Chiropractic Boosters Tell It like It Is
It's astonishing how so many sick persons put off trying chiropractic until after they've tried just about everything else. Chiropractic sources estimate as many as half of the millions of persons who went to chiropractic doctors last year had already tried other healing methods for their illnesses and health complaints without success. That means millions might have benefitted from chiropractic care right from the first, rather than later.
While that sad situation is alarming enough, what concerns chiropractors even more are the untold millions of persons still "out there" who need… View the article
Untreated Minor Overuse Injuries Can Become Major
Almost any ongoing, repetitive irritation, stress, strain, sprain, physical tension, prolonged tautness, or pressure can produce an overuse injury to any involved part of the body.
A repetitive activity as simple as painting walls or ceilings can bring on overuse injury. Such injuries are called bursitis, tendinitis, myositis and other inflammations depending on the tissues involved.

Such injuries come across surprisingly painful, tenacious, crippling and sometimes resistant to treatment. That's why chiropractic doctors worry about those of us who repeatedly put our mobility… View the article
Test Your Own Kids for Pelvic Torsion and Short Leg
No one really knows how many millions of adults now living with serious health problems would be healthy today if regular chiropractic checkups had been a part of their growing years.
But this much we do know: a recent survey of chiropractic practices revealed that more than half the adult patients exhibited spinal distortions and faulty bodily functions directly related to seemingly minor injuries at birth or childhood accidents, mishaps, or injuries which were never treated properly, if at all. Yet, many childhood accident-related structural problems can be… View the article
Care of Constipation Without Laxatives
Folks who take a laxative every time they think: their bowels should move could be headed for health problems. Laxatives are, after all, drugs, and like other drugs carry the risk of adverse side effects from habitual use.
Some of the problems brought on by frequent, prolonged, or habitual use of laxatives follow:
Can lead to addiction and the ultimate destruction of neurological and muscular control of the large intestine. Can deplete bodily fluids, salts, and essential vitamins and minerals. Can bring on dizziness, fatigue, skin irritation, diarrhea, irregular heartbeat,… View the article
The Good Patient's Advantage - Why It Pays Off
Have you ever wondered what doctors mean by the expression "good patient?" Is it an arbitrary designation doctors attach only to those patients who never complain and who never ask questions?
Not on your life. Chiropractic doctors want and expect patients to voice concern about their health problems and to ask meaningful questions about treatment and what the doctor wants them to do. A patient's active involvement in his or her own recovery is the first step toward being a good patient.

No chiropractic doctor wants to throw cold water on a patient's enthusiasm for exercise. Done correctly and within the patient's physical limitations, exercise improves health and fitness and brings on a sense of well-being that can't be obtained in any other way.
CHIROPRACTORS CONCERNED
Part of a conscientious doctor's job, though, is to point out possible health pitfalls in a patient's life ... and chiropractors do worry about those patients who endanger themselves through high-intensity exercises or sports activities beyond their current capabilities.

Chiropractors Take Sinusitis Seriously
Sinusitis is nothing to fool around with. The condition demands immediate chiropractic attention because repeated acute attacks may bring on a chronic sinusitis condition.
The sinuses are air pockets, hollows within certain frontal bones of the skull which connect to the nasal cavity. Like the nose itself, sinuses are lined with moist mucous membrane. Sinusitis is an inflammation of one or more of those membranes. They become infected, inflamed, swollen, and impacted with mucus, pus, and other fluids and debris.

Chiropractors Win In Court Over Medical Establishment
Chiropractic doctors finally had their "day in court." A lawsuit filed by four chiropractors in 1976 accused the American Medical Association and other medical groups of conspiring to prevent U.S. chiropractors from practicing, though they are licensed in all 50 states.
The chiropractic doctors sought no monetary damages. Instead, one of the lawsuit's main thrusts challenged the medical establishment's refusal to acknowledge the efficacy of chiropractic.

Bursitis Often Needs Chiropractic Attention
Physically active persons who may appear to be the perfect picture of health are the chief targets of bursitis. So if you are a highly active person, don't be surprised if suddenly you develop an agonizing case of bursitis.

Examination By Touch

Detecting Scoliosis In Children
Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine that usually shows up (if it's going to) during adolescence... and is more common than people may realize.
The condition is most likely to appear between the ages of 10 and 15, when a child's body seems to be growing "every which way." It affects about one out of ten adolescents to some degree.
While very mild cases occur at about the same rate in both girls and boys, girls are about eight times more likely to develop more severe cases.

Untreated Neck Problems Tend To Get Worse
While the design of the spine is most splendid, it is also very susceptible to the knocks, bumps, and jolts of everyday living. This is particularly true of the neck portion of the spine, that graceful body part between the head and shoulders called the cervical spine.
There you'll find a highly complex arrangement of muscles, ligaments, cartilages, blood vessels, nerves, spinal discs, and spinal bones (vertebras), along with the voice box, the wind-pipe, and the gullet, all fitting snugly into an area about the length of one's hand.

Invariably this causes back pain and stiffness and may cause internal health problems as well.

As family doctors, drawing on their remarkable knowledge of the spine and nerves, chiropractors treat a wide variety of human illnesses, diseases, conditions, pains and problems in all… View the article
Injured Ask: How Long Will It Take, Doctor?
Many of us injure ourselves partly because we tend to rush headlong into activities-sports, recreational happenings, yard work and the like-without properly conditioning our bodies for the sudden added physical load, and partly because a lot more of us are a lot more physically active these days.
That's why nerves, muscles, ligaments, bones, tendons and joints get hurt from time to time.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE, DOCTOR?
Then, human nature being what it is, we expect to be fully healed instantly. After all, we reason, if… View the article
Stomach Exercises Help Prevent Back Pain
To understand the importance of reasonably strong abdominal muscles in spinal stability, keep in mind that the human spine is made up of twenty-four separate bones (vertebras) stacked one on top another and held together by ligaments.
This arrangement of spinal bones is supported by back muscles and in the front by abdominal muscles. Neck muscles and the ribcage also help support the upper spine. But it is the abdominal muscles which compress the body's innards against the spinal column in front. Thus, (among other functions) those belly muscles playa very … View the article
Many Seniors Trust In Chiropractic Care
Around the age of fifty or so it's not at all unusual for a man or a woman to experience frequent bouts of back pain severe enough to take a lot of the fun out of life. Indeed, four out of five persons at some time during their lives suffer back pain, a percentage which comes pretty close to hitting everybody eventually. That's because — as we age — the youthful flexibility and suppleness of the body slowly fades away and is slowly replaced with encroaching stiffness, reduced range of motion, and pain.

Where Nerves Go, What They Do and the Chiropractic Doctor
No drawing or illustration can adequately represent the astounding complexity of the human nervous system. Nerves go everywhere, even into the most remote and far distant areas and cells of the body... a body so thoroughly saturated with nerves and twigs of nerves that if we could wish away all the body's bones, muscles, blood vessels and other tissues, we would still have a shadowy form of the body composed only of nerves.

Learning To Relax With Chiropractic
The demands of modern American life leave many of us feeling anxious, stressed, and out of control. It seems that always there is more and more to do and less and less time to do it. And that's not good. Such stress contributes to high blood pressure, heart disease, ulcers, headaches, depression, and "nervous breakdown," to mention only a few stress-related physical and mental problems. Even backache may be brought on or worsened by a hectic lifestyle. Chiropractic doctors see such problems day in and day out. They see that the pressure cooker lives… View the article
Sports Injuries Can Happen To Anyone

And no wonder. It seems that just about everyone is caught up in the excitement of getting and staying fit as well as having a lot of fun from physical activity.

Results and Word of Mouth Built Chiropractic! Will You Help?
In September 1895, there was only one chiropractic doctor and only one chiropractic patient. The doctor was Daniel David Palmer, the patient a janitor named Harvey Lillard. Together they made healing arts history when Palmer restored Lillard's hearing by realigning a misaligned vertebra in Lillard's spine.
From that humble beginning, Palmer developed the science of chiropractic, a healing method which recognizes the supreme importance of a properly-functioning nervous system.
Palmer found that pinched spinal nerves due to vertebral misalignments alter normal nerve impulses, and thereby… View the article
Treating scoliosis with chiropractic care
Has your child recently been diagnosed with scoliosis? Many parents faced with this unknown seek answers to their questions, like whether or not she/he will need a back brace or can continue to play sports. But did you know that research suggests that chiropractic can effectively treat scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a lateral, or sideways, curve in the spine. Most cases start out mild but can turn severe over time, reducing space within the chest, limiting breathing and decreasing mobility. There are a number of causes of scoliosis, including bone abnormalities, cerebral palsy, or traumatic back injury, but researches don’t know what causes the scoliosis commonly found in girls reaching puberty.
Treatments for scoliosis can include wearing a brace, fusion of the spine, or chiropractic. Braces do not cure scoliosis or reverse a curve that’s already present, but they are intended to prevent the curve from progressing. Braces are often uncomfortable and embarrassing to school age children. Fusion of the spine is reserved for severe cases where the curve is more than 40 degrees.
Most medical doctors will not treat scoliosis unless the curve is more than 20 degrees. Consequently, many mild forms of scoliosis are not treated, even though children with scoliosis are more likely to develop chronic back pain as adults or to experience arthritis of the spine.
Chiropractic care for scoliosis includes spinal manipulation and physiotherapy. These treatments help to relax, strengthen, and stretch the muscles and ligaments around the spine. A chiropractor can safely treat less serious curves so that the condition can be monitored before it progresses.
In numerous case studies, spinal manipulation has moderated the curve of scoliosis patients. Additional research suggests that chiropractic care is a safe and effective way to reduce curvature and increase the patient’s function. One study found that after 4-6 weeks of treatment, spinal manipulation helped reduce patients’ Cobb angle (the measure of scoliosis curvature).
If your child has a mild case of scoliosis and you would like to prevent future problems, seek treatment from a licensed Montgomery chiropractor. Montgomery chiropractic care, such as that provided by Health Star Chiropractic, may be able to help you or your child with treating and managing pain.

International Study Finds Chiropractic Best for Low Back Pain
Health care news from Canada could scarcely be better for American chiropractors and the American public. The study — called

#1 — Which is more effective for low back pain, chiropractic treatment or medical treatment?
#2 — Which costs less?

The Amazing Discovery of Chiropractic
The discovery of chiropractic principles was inevitable. It's easy to see that now, more than one hundred years after the fact especially in light of the medical context of the late nineteenth century.
In those days, patent medicines were rampant and largely ineffective. The medical profession was attempting to organize itself, establish standards of competency and eliminate quackery within its own ranks, striving to become scientific. Here, in the health field, there was an enormous need to be filled and it was Daniel David Palmer's fate to fill it.

Peptic Ulcers and Spinal Subluxations
Peptic ulcers are sores, craters, or lesions, either in the small intestine or the stomach. The term "peptic" comes from pepsin, an enzyme which works in harmony with hydrochloric acid to digest food. Normally those digestive chemicals do not affect the lining of the stomach and intestine, but when the lining's resistance breaks down or too much acid is consistently produced, an ulcer is likely to develop.

Generally ulcers are not considered life threatening, though they do make the lives of millions miserable and anxious, and complications of ulcers do… View the article

Give Shoulder Pain Chiropractic Care
Of the nearly half-billion American shoulders — two for every man, woman, and child —most shoulders work well enough most of the time. And that's good. We humans depend on our shoulders for free and painless movement in virtually every physical activity: driving, walking, eating, golfing, swimming, working, whatever. We can hardly do anything without some shoulder involvement, though it is sometimes ever so slight.
Even breathing requires an infinitesimal shoulder movement, as does merely turning the head or countless other ordinary activities.
